When I say I have a blackbelt in organizing, I mean it! There is no mess I can’t tame. But that’s because I have a system.
I break down the process into manageable steps. And I always have boxes/bins ready for the things I will end up donating or selling. And I have bags ready for things I can trash or recycle. This is super helpful for getting lots of unneeded clutter out of the way.
Below are my steps in a nutshell. However, for a more detailed explanation please check out this post http://makingitfabulous.com/more-organized-life/
Step 1 Know what the end game is for the space that you’re organizing.
Step 2 Actually schedule time to work on the mess (and be realistic).
Step 3 It’s almost impossible to organize a space without extra space to work in. Make sure you have some place to temporarily move things.
Step 4 Choose your starting point.
Step 5 Remove EVERYTHING. And if you didn’t schedule enough time to remove it all. At least remove EVERYTHING from the target area you’ve set as your goal.
Step 6 Bag your trash; bag your recyclables; start your donation box; start your sell box. Then start sorting your keep pile.
Step 7 Thoroughly clean the space. Gather what you will need for organizing: totes/jars/baskets/boxes.
Step 8 Pack your things into the appropriate containers. Start putting things back into the space.
