Lighting diys are some of my favorite transformations. Because you can instantly update a room just by changing up the lighting.
But lighting diys can also be some of trickiest. Tricky because there are so many bulb sizes, bulb styles and bulb types. Color temperature. Amps, lumens and voltage to think about. Then add in the complexity of the various lampshade styles and pendant shade styles. It’s really easy to mess up. So I understand why people could be a bit hesitant in this arena.
However, if you will push through a bit of trial and error. You can arrive at some of the most innovative DIY lighting ideas. I’ve seen cool light fixtures made from liquor bottles, cheese graters, zip ties, drum kits, bird cages, paint cans and even PVC floor lamps.
It seems the sky is pretty much the limit in terms of materials you can use to make a lamp or hanging fixture. But it is very important to research your materials and understand any short comings of the materials you are planning to put together. After all, electricity is involved. So this is no place for doing things halfway. Safety first!!
I hope some of my lighting diys will inspire you to create your own unique versions.
