For me, Kitchen DIY is not about recipes. This category is mostly about making things coordinate in the kitchen and dining area in similar fashion to every other room in my home.
Although most our appliances are stored in the cabinets and the counters are mostly free. We do however, have to keep a few things out as a matter of convenience.
For example, we keep our K-cup pods near the Keurig coffee maker. Along with sweetener and decaf K-cups. But I am not a fan of those display stands that show the actual K-cups. Without doubt, that would be way too much mismatched clutter on the counter for me.
Instead, I hide all this coffee business in canisters on the counter. But when the look of my canisters became obsolete a few years ago. I chose kitchen DIY to recover my canisters as opposed to just simply replacing them.
Perhaps this makes me a chronic DIYer? Or could it be my guilt from being an over consumer that causes me to occasionally pull back on new purchases? Either way, I think it’s healthy and smart to try and upcycle as often as possible :)
With this in mind, don’t get me wrong, I am not claiming to be an environmental saint, lol. If something doesn’t coordinate in my home I am quick to change it. But I will first give kitchen DIY a try.
Likewise, I’m hoping these ideas might inspire you to also try kitchen DIY first. In this post I recover several things including an old slow cooker; a boring tortilla warmer and a stainless steel trash can. http://makingitfabulous.com/kitchen-diy-decor/
